Hello!

My name is Lily-Sue, but my mummy calls me Munchkin (or 'Munch' for short!) I am 8 years old, and this is where my mummy will help me write all about all the fun things we do together. I hope you enjoy reading about the adventures of my mummy and me, Munchkin, with the occasional appearance from the siblings - Beastie and Plumlet.

Hacking our burgers with Rustlers

A Dinnertime Challenge!

I'm a mum of three. Munch is 8, Beastie is 5 and Plumlet is 4. The girls go to school 5 days per week, whilst Plumlet spends two days of his week at nursery and the rest with me. There are after school clubs and other extra-curricular activities that are scheduled during the week. The Man works long hours, and I am trying my hardest to make good preparations for a life for myself, ready for when Plumlet starts school in September.

Therefore, naturally, I cook each and every meal from scratch, using only the finest organic ingredients whilst guaranteeing that every bite contains the correct balance of every nutrient known to man ... and some that are not. Oh, and I forgot to mention that we all sit down, harmoniously, as a family of 5, seven days a week and all enjoy the one single meal that has been lovingly and flawlessly prepared ...

Ok, so as parents, we all want what is best for our children, and in an ideal world there would be enough hours in the day to allow for several hours of meal preparation. However, this is not an ideal world. This is reality, and real life is just not like this. Not for us, anyway.

Regardless of how imperfect our world may be, we do love to sit down as a family to enjoy a meal together. Admittedly, it is not always possible, but we make the effort to do so a few times per week. Sometimes, in order to make this happen, we will opt for a 'quick and easy' meal option. Less time preparing and cooking means more time sitting together.

So when we were invited by Britmums to take part in their Burger Hacking Challenge with Rustlers, I thought this would be great for us.

Rustlers burgers are a perfect quick fix when time is short and tummies are empty. They can be eaten as a quick snack or added to a main meal. Either way, they are really fast and simple to prepare and very tasty!

So we were set the challenge to take the Rustlers Southern Fried Chicken Burger Twin Pack, select our preferred ingredients to compliment our meal and to have fun with the family, hacking our burgers to make them just right for us.

We stocked up on the ingredients that the kids requested.

The great thing about Rustlers burgers are they can be cooked in the microwave, and will be ready in aroundR 2 minutes. You have the option to either place the whole burger into the microwave, or you can, like us, place the patty on its own into the microwave whilst the bread bun goes into the toaster or under the grill for a short time.

Rustlers Southern Fried Chicken Burgers are made using quality chicken marinated with a southern fried breadcrumb and are delicious when eaten as they come, but including some of your favourite additions can make all the difference and allows you to personalise your meal in the best way!

This is how Munch asked for her burger to be served to her. Munch is our fussiest eater. She likes her food to be basic and has some serious issues with textures of different foods. However, she loved the sound of the challenge and tried her hardest to embrace the opportunity to show that she could be more adventurous with her food. She likes her bun to be toasted, and toasted well.

All 3 kids had their salad requests ...

With the addition of various salad items, onion rings, homestyle chips and a selection of condiments, we managed to create a meal that was enjoyed by everyone, and I can honestly say, plates were very empty by the end of dinner time!

Every Rustlers burger also comes with its own little sachet of sauce. The Southern Fried Chicken Burgers come with a peppered mayo, which went down a treat with Beastie, who is demanding to know where she can get her hands on it in a big bottle! Once she had filled her burger with salad, onion rings, cheese and completed it with sauce, she declared herself to be in a very good place.

This challenge has been so much fun. The bottom line is, Rustlers claim to provide a quick, convenient and affordable meal for when parents need it most, and I think we have managed to prove this to be true. One thing is for sure, and that is that it took a lot less time to prepare this dinner than it did for everyone to finish eating it! They weren't missing a crumb and they declared that their bellies were satisfyingly full by the end!

Thank you Rustlers!
Your burgers will now appear on our shopping list much more frequently!

Rustlers Southern Fried Chicken Twin Pack and other varieties in the Rustlers range are available from the chilled section in Tesco, so why not add them to your shopping list too, and get hacking! We'd love to see what you can do with yours.
